Ooi Tiang Chien KEW080018
Question 1:
Even though “Edmund” is not my official name, I always tell my friends to address me by that name as it’s much easier to remember and shorter compared to ”Ooi Tiang Chien” (as stated on my Identification Card) which I only use for official matters. I was born in Penang Island on the 5th October 1988 in a family of four with me as the youngest in the family after my elder brother.
I have spent 6 years in SK Seri Permai completing my primary education and 5 more years in Penang Free School as my secondary school in which I spent another one and a half years doing my form 6 before here I am, in University of Malaya, doing my Bachelor of Computer Engineering.
Unlike most young adults, I have no idea what I want to become in the future even after 21 years of living on earth. If I were to be asked on why I chose Computer Engineering as my university course, the answer is simply because I love computers plus my interest for it began to rise even more when I managed to dissect open my Central Processing Unit (CPU), meddled with its components many times without spoiling them and most important of all, enjoyed the process! I once dreamt of becoming a professional badminton player but that dream can only be achieved literally in my dreams. This is due to the facts that professional badminton players start their badminton life in their primary school and I started mine at the age of 18. As for interest, I’m a huge fan of the sport. If I have the opportunity, I would get on court with my friends for a game of badminton at least 3 times a week like it has always been when I was in Penang but university life has made me unable to achieve that with all the assignments and homework to be completed. Nevertheless, the busy life I have does not stop me from keeping up to date with Malaysian badminton news online and tournament results via www.bam.org.my & www.tournamentsoftware.com respectively.
One of the things I appreciate the most in my life is knowing a group of not-so-bad and not-so-innocent friends, totally perfect to spend my teenage life with. Not so bad in the sense that we don’t smoke or commit any crimes and not so innocent in the sense that we don’t mind breaking the red light on the road when necessary and visiting cyber cafes the whole night until early in the morning. We get to know each other through the 1st Georgetown (South) Scouts' Group. Yes, it is indeed the 1st ever scouting movement formed in Malaysia. We enjoyed the warmth of the sun under the open field building gadgets made of bamboos, had unofficial beach picnics overnight where barbeques were done without fail every time and not to forget the nights spend in cyber cafes until sunrise. Despite being separated studying in different places, we made it a point to have a gathering every time we get back to Penang even though if it’s only a “minum” session held in a mamak stall.
One of the things I do not appreciate in my life the most is my ability to procrastinate something until the very last minute. No matter how I tell myself to finish up an assignment as soon as I receive it, 24 hours before the time to hand up, I would still be struggling to complete it like how I am for this particular essay.
Question 2:
THINKING
Definition:
a)The act or practice of one that thinks; thought.
b)A way of reasoning; judgment: To my thinking, this is not a good idea.
Reference: http://www.answers.com/thinking
Types:
1. Critical thinking - This is convergent thinking. It assesses the worth and validity of something existent. It involves precise, persistent, objective analysis. When teachers try to get several learners to think convergently, they try to help them develop common understanding.
2. Creative thinking - This is divergent thinking. It generates something new or different. It involves having a different idea that works as well or better than previous ideas.
3. Convergent thinking - This type of thinking is cognitive processing of information around a common point, an attempt to bring thoughts from different directions into a union or common conclusion.
4. Divergent thinking - This type of thinking starts from a common point and moves outward into a variety of perspectives. When fosering divergent thinking, teachers use the content as a vehicle to prompt diverse or unique thinking among students rather than a common view.
5. Inductive thinking - This is the process of reasoning from parts to the whole, from examples to generalizations.
6. Deductive thinking - This type of reasoning moves from the whole to its parts, from generalizations to underlying concepts to examples.
7. Closed questions - These are questions asked by teachers that have predictable responses. Closed questions almost always require factual recall rather than higher levels of thinking.
8. Open questions - These are questions that do not have predictable answers. Open questions almost always require higher order thinking.

I believe I apply critical thinking and creative thinking in my daily life.
Critical Thinking: I usually apply this when i'm faced with unusual situations for example when a talkative friend becomes quiet out of a sudden. I will start to think critically on why the incident occur. All the thinkings would be of analysis on why that particular situation occur. My friend might be tired, no voice, or maybe just not in a good mood. I believe being able to think critically can make me a person who understands more deeply about things in the future.
Creative thinking: I usually apply this when i'm faced with with situations which require me to come out with more ideas for example when i'm playing games and sports with friends which requires me to think of various strategies in order to win. For instance in a game of badminton, i would analyse on whether to hit the shuttle to my opponent's backhand or forehand depending on his level of the game. I believe being able to think creatively can make me a person who has a wide horizon and being able to relate things to one another well in the future.

I also agree that friends are very very important in our lives, they really mean a lot to us, they can sometimes be our mentor, they can sometimes be our teacher, they can just be almost anything to us, so cheer up bro, we still have some badminton matches to be settle
Since you already know your weakness, it is never too late to change! Don't do last minute work as it'll stress you out.One of the things I do not appreciate in my life the most is my ability to procrastinate something until the very last minute. No matter how I tell myself to finish up an assignment as soon as I receive it, 24 hours before the time to hand up, I would still be struggling to complete it like how I am for this particular essay.
Re: Ooi Tiang Chien KEW080018

Re: Ooi Tiang Chien KEW080018
haha...I have the disease like you. I will always procrasnate my work, even worst when it comes to writting essay. If we continue being like this, we might have to face unwanted things when it comes to career life. As, Chan said it is never to late to change. So, lets try to get through this bad habit.
p/s: friends are very important in life. Quality of friends are more important than quantity of friends. Best friends meant a lot in out life :-)
