First of all, the reason I chose this particular article from New Straits Times (NST) because NST has always been one of the most reliable English news and articles source in this country. This article was written by one of NST’s writer, Zainul Arifin.
The writer started his article with giving idea to readers on what his article is all about. He stated that this New Year should be a whole new fresh start for everyone. This is because we are no longer in 20th century, and of course, we have already passed 10 years of this century. Like in every New Year, we must have our own aim or so-called resolution. He said it right went he questioned readers on how long those New Year resolutions would last. We can understand why he said that. It’s a natural thing if we don’t achieve what we have aim for and our passion just dies out. The writer made his point based on his experience and observation, which is make sense. So we can say that he thought it right and his point is sensible.
Then the writer continued his article with some events occurred in the past 10 years. In this article, he said that our country has changed so much with local people no longer sharing things. This is due to the advancement of technology and media communication. He’s not sure that this is good for our country. Surely, he didn’t think it thoroughly, because definitely our country needs to move along with other rising nation and use advance technology. People change, we change. It’s understandable that our country has moved to another stage and Malaysian would have a little in common. So, referring to his doubt, we can say that he didn’t really stating out his point clearly. And the football team gold medal case, I’m totally having an opposite view. Well of course, sport is not really the writer’s expertise.
The rest of the article is about how social networking websites become new portal for our people to give ideas and comments. He is right by saying that these websites can be useful and at the same time give problem to us. It's up to us to decide how to use it. In summary, his article was well written and easy to understand. It’s not provoking any political or racial issues and the messages were well delivered.
