Summary of book ‘Perutusan 2000’
Advancement in technology and communication unexpectedly brings up problems. In the year 2000, the world was shocked with the so-called virus, Y2K that can affect computers and other communication gadgets. Thus, it was said that the world spend about $600 billion on preventing this Y2K. And, University of Malaya itself spends RM 2.6 million only for this matter. Fortunately, no serious incident happens. With the preparation has been made, University of Malaya is now using new equipment and computer.
A lot of changes and improvement have been made this year by Malaysia. The 8th Malaysia’s Plan, the 'Development Planning' can be achieved with everyone's cooperation. To make this into reality, UM has taken an initiative to improve its management while open up new relevant courses with a new institute.
The increasing of students does not depend on the facilities. But also depend on the teaching staff. The optimum number of students has to be achieved to maintain the teaching quality. A lot of improvements have been made, a more quality assured semester system, practice and improvement classes for the staff. Moreover, to achieve more national integration, the staffs have been introduced to ‘Budaya Mesra Pelajar’ scheme. This way, it can also induce to a new good learning habit. Also, activities that are unnecessary for student will be reduced.
A dialog or discussion with the head of students and the University has been held. This will not only resolve problem effectively but can also help to understand each other.

Comment:
From this book, we learn that the year 2000 has made us to improve the service and quality of teaching of University Malaya. The Y2K phenomenon not only affecting the world but also UM, and thus a lot of effort have been made.
It is true that the staffs have successfully achieved the ‘Budaya Mesra Pelajar’. I’m as a student of University Malaya gladly says that I have received a warm welcome and a great service from the staff. But only a few of them, still not polite enough or should I say has make a misconduct due to a certain event that I experience it myself. And even more than that, there is also no one for me to refer to for this problem except my friends.
As an undergraduate student, it really is necessary to involve in campus politic to learn and adept the way to criticize and influence people. But , this thing should not be brought or to affect our learning conditions and environments. I am regretting to say that the lot posters or items for campaign have been carelessly abandoned. Not only that, the night of the result for e-voting really took us all night to know the result. The new system that has been made should make life easier, but instead it brings up disappointment to a lot of people.
A lot of quality assurance has been made thorough the year 2000 to 2010, but there is still rooms for improvement. To ensure success in becoming the top university in the world, not only the students but the staff or everyone here in UM have to make it happens.


Comments on the slides note about Pluralism
Meaning
What we can descirbe a pluralism from this slide is it represents the diversuty of religions and ethnicity.there are many defination of pluralism,for instance islamic pluralisme.
Whye pluralism is important,we woulde say that diversity has it pros and cons.Malaysian future will be highly determined by malaysian pluralism.Global pluralism can overcome failed iner-ethnic and inter religious problem.
From this slide, it focus on the islamic perspective, so as we noticed this subject is about the pluralism and islamic theology. In Islam, it says that Islam is all about the unity, the relation of the one and the many. Biologicl diversity is for the natural world and cultural diversity for human world. And we know wheather Biological or cultural in Islam is all the same for pluralism.
In the Quran & ethic pluralism, it state two popularly quoted Quranic reading, for the first one it says about the origin of human family, the purpose of ethnic diversity, the position of quran and also human intelligence. The other were language. It says that language is most important element of ethnicity.
Diversity helps us create new ideas, share opinion and understand each other in many ways. Although Islam is a believe to One God, it has variety of ways to worship him. It can be said that Islam holds the concept of converging thinking. Different methods, opinion and type of people are accepted as long as it move towards One God which is Allah s.w.t. In fact, Islam accept variety types of ‘ibadah’ and life concept. All of these difference and diversity lead us to our believe.

A lot of improvements have been made, a more quality assured semester system, practice and improvement classes for the staff.

Yes, there is indeed a lot of improvements at that time, especially with the internet connection facilities.
